Electives
Medical students from all over the world can undertake elective attachments at Edinburgh Medical School teaching hospitals.
The Medical School supports full electives for their partner schools:
Nagoya University School of Medicine (Japan)
Kyoto Prefectural University of Medicine (Japan)
The University of Sydney (Australia)
Weill Cornell Medical College (USA)
Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons (USA)

They also accept a limited number of medical students from U21 (Universitas 21) medical schools.
NHS Lothian supports full electives for UK undergraduates.
Students from other universities out with the UK are limited to observer-only electives also organised though NHS Lothian
Tasters
Emergency Medicine presents unique challenges, but the Emergency Department is an exceptional team environment and a compelling place to practice Medicine. We offer FY2 taster attachments to support foundation doctors considering a career in EM. These placements provide valuable shop floor experience and a clearer understanding of the specialty.

Observerships
Sadly, due to the number of staff in training, we are unable to support clinical observerships in the Emergency Department.
