Higher Specialty Training within the region offers the trainee the opportunity to rotate through a thoroughly enjoyable yet comprehensive training programme. Primarily based at the RIE with specific attachments at the Royal Hospital for Children & Young People, St John’s Hospital, Victoria Hospital Kirkaldy. Each department offers unique and valuable training experience to prepare you for your role as a future EM consultant. 

Specialist training within the region offers you the opportunity to work with and join a large and enthusiastic and divers team of EM consultants. Subspecialty interest and expertise within the consultant group is comprehensive and ranges across all domains of core and allies EM activity. 

The region and deanery offer local opportunities to OOPE/R including Paediatric subspecialty Emergency Medicine, Pre-Hospital EM nationally, Intensive Care Medicine, Medical Education, Academic Research and Frailty. We currently have a relatively high number of trainees successfully availing of these training experiences. 

There is a comprehensive formal and informal; local, regional and national teaching programmes. These encompass practical preparation for FRCEM and the consultant role along with comprehensive technical and non-technical skills training. 

Excellent support is provided both pastorally and professionally by the Educational and Clinical Supervisor network to assist and support you through your individual training. During your training the emphasis is on the delivery of safe patient centred care, team working and challenging you to achieve your potential. We are supportive of LTFT training (less than full time) at all years. 

Application is nationally administered by the Deanery with the selections process usually occurring around Easter for an August start. The RCEM require that potential trainees possess MRCEM and equivalent ACCS training and competencies.
