Medic One
The Emergency Department at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh consists of a large team of highly skilled professionals who are committed to providing the highest possible standards of emergency medical care to patients from across Edinburgh and the Lothians, from roadside to bedside, 24/7, 365 days a year.
Intrinsically linked to the Emergency Medicine service and Medic One ethos is our charity, the Medic One Trust (registered number SCO22668). This was developed in 1998 to support a trailblazing prehospital service in Edinburgh, Now, it funds opportunities for research, education and learning to all Emergency Department staff and promotes excellence in patient care.
Over the years, the Medic One Trust has supported local projects and research leading to increased survival in out-of-hospital cardiac arrest and innovative teaching and management skills.
Examples of projects supported by the Charity include supporting medical students with poster presentations at conferences, nurses attending Advanced Life Support courses, trauma courses and mental health courses. Doctors have been supported doing research and presenting at conferences.
Robin Mitchell Fellowship
In memory of Robin Gordon Mitchell (MBCHB, MRCP, FFAEM, FACEM, an emergency medicine specialist and Director of Training at Auckland City Hospital, who died peacefully in Mercy Hospice, Auckland, New Zealand on 7th July 2010 from pancreatic cancer. This fellowship is awarded to the Scottish Trainee who can most closely grasp and deliver the values that Robin held so dear, and embodied in his daily practice.
